    Own your infrastructure

Cambium is a Perforce replacement for independent teams that want ownership of their projects. The client is open source and the server is source-available for you to self host. Indie teams deserve a version control solution that is free and comes without compromise. You'll never hit a user cap or have to get a license. Cambium is yours forever.

    Built around your workflow

Cambium works on a single branch with exclusive file checkouts so your changes are protected. Statuses keep you up to date on the state of your files both in the desktop app and in your game engine using Cambium Engine Integrations. Cambium lets you check in files you forgot on your other devices, administer through the CLI, and lock a scene or level in your editor. Your team works seamlessly no matter where they'd like to work.

    Designed for game artists

When we decided we wanted to quit Perforce, there were no good options available. All commercial game-development VCS solutions have strings attached, per seat pricing or some reliance on a provider. No option to self-host means it's not really yours. The alternative is to use outdated software like Subversion, which is difficult to administrate and has a larger learning curve for new users. Cambium is our solution to meet the needs of our small/medium sized team. Its design is inspired by the software we use everyday. We hope Cambium is to Perforce what Blender is to Maya, or Obsidian is to Notion.

Cambium Servers also support organization features to share availability, schedule meetings, and distribute builds. Cambium is currently in beta but will support a web portal in the future for your team members to interact with your organization through a browser without needing a client. If your team already has solutions for these needs, you can always turn this off.

Having both a desktop client and a CLI means all team members can work how they are used to. Cambium was designed for the needs of our team: exclusive checkouts and no branching means there is no ambiguity in a repository. Read our Documentation to learn about all its features.

    Engine Integrations

The desktop app carries plugins for Unreal Engine and Unity and installs them straight into your workspace. The Unity integration is a standalone package with its own menu, panel and save prompt. The Unreal integration plugs into Unreal's existing revision control API.

    Cambium Desktop

The desktop client that syncs your workspace with your team's repository. Add and check out files, submit, and revert all from here. This is the only piece artists and developers will need to install.

    Cambium CLI

The same functionality without the graphic interface. It reads the same client state directory as the desktop app, so one machine stays one device with one identity.

    Engine Integrations

Artists and designers can check out and submit files directly from Unity and Unreal using the packaged plugins. Engine integrations both provide convenience and protect against changes of files without a checkout.
